Making Photos with Marc Laucks Photography (NO LUNCH)

It is common to describe the process of photography as "taking" a photo. Curiously photographers think of the process instead as "making pictures." A finished photo is a single instance of commitment to the unique combination of crop, color, exposure, highlights, shadows, sharpening, and luminance that MAKE each finished photo. I'll share with attendees how photographers "make" photos. Samples of my work will be available for people to see and explore, with limited items available for purchase.

I've enjoyed "making pictures" since the early 1990s. I take photos of primarily insects, flowers, and plants. Most of my nature photos are of plants I’ve grown on my farm. I also enjoy HDR work and on the commercial side I really enjoy taking photos of objects made from metal. I like looking at things in new ways. It gives me a new perspective. Sometimes, I’ll lie flat on my back beneath the canopy of a plant and shoot straight up. I like discovering the hidden worlds that exist inside the otherwise mundane. Like a small clover flower. Clover is the kind of thing you walk around on your lawn all day long and just step on. But when you take the time to examine it you discover that it is staggering in its beauty. The little florets by themselves are fascinating. Taken together as a whole they add a brand new dimension. Most people wouldn’t recognize the things that I photograph as parts of their every day life. Like the clover. Or a blueberry flower. Or a tiny insect. I am a cu
