LCRCC is an RC airplane club whose mission is to share the active hobby of building and flying model airplanes. We are a 50-year-old chartered member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, a national organization founded to promote model aviation.

Walter Szempruch Maker Photo

Walter Szempruch

Walter Szempruch is a retired Hospital Product and Medical Device Senior Research Scientist with a BS from the University of Illinois. He has been involved in RC modeling for over 50 years through the building and flying of scale and non-scale airplanes. He is an active member of LRCC and serves as the club's Event Director. He is also active in MGB car restoration and was a former IHSA wrestling referee. Model aviation has been a lifelong passion and hobby that has enriched his life, and he enjoys sharing the experience with others especially mentoring newcomers to the hobby.

Chuck Smith

Chuck Smith is a Computer Engineer working in the Computed Tomography industry for the past 48 years. As a child, his teenage neighbor built “stick and tissue” models of airplanes and had them suspended on a string in his bedroom. This inspired a lifetime of model building and enthusiasm for all things aviation. Chuck took flying lessons at age 17 and soloed in a Cessna 150 on his 18th birthday. He built a 4 channel rad
