Hands-on Plastic Recycling and Injection Molding

Home: New York, United States

Come see how the Maker Web is recycling plastic into raw materials for injection molding at this hands-on booth. See the process in action and take home your own injection molded keychain! Injection molding is a forming process using molds. Materials such as synthetic resins (plastics) are heated and melted, and then sent to the mold where they are cooled to form the designed shape. Due to the resemblance to the process of injecting fluids using a syringe, this process is called injection molding.

Union College Maker Web

The Union College Maker Web is a unique group of 5 Makerspaces (fabrication and tinkering labs) spread across campus dedicated to supporting maker activities, experimentation and hands-on learning for the entire campus community. These co-working spaces are at the intersection of departments and disciplines and we assist students and faculty with courses and research. We host many analog and digital tools for making and fabricating including 3D printers laser cutters and CNC milling machines.
