Marci Ichimura
Marci is the artist and creator behind HanaFooda, a deluxe Hanafuda-Poker deck inspired by the rich food culture and deep-rooted family traditions of Hawaii. Born on Maui but raised on the mainland, Marci spent summers reconnecting with her heritage, learning the stories of her father’s upbringing in a tight-knit Lahaina community. Her grandfather was a Japanese sugar cane plantation worker, and her grandmother a Japanese immigrant who worked in local hotels — and through their hard work, family ties, and shared meals, Marci found the heart of her inspiration. After the devastating 2023 Maui fires, she felt an even stronger desire to honor these memories through her art. The HanaFooda deck blends traditional Hanafuda influences with contemporary local Hawaiian Grinds (foods) and a touch of island history, offering a playful, meaningful tribute to the flavors and spirit of Hawaii.
