3D Printing with the Union College Maker Web
Home: New York, United States
Come learn about 3D Printing and see 3D Printers in action! The Maker Web mostly uses Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) which is one of the most widely used 3D printing technologies, where a thermoplastic filament is heated to its melting point and then extruded layer by layer to build a 3D object. The process involves the deposition of the melted material through a nozzle, which moves in a controlled pattern based on a digital design. As the material cools, it solidifies, and successive layers fuse together to create the final object. FDM is popular for its affordability, accessibility, and ability to produce functional prototypes, parts, and tools from a variety of plastic materials like PLA, ABS, and PETG.

Union College Maker Web
The Union College Maker Web is a unique group of 5 Makerspaces (fabrication and tinkering labs) spread across campus dedicated to supporting maker activities, experimentation and hands-on learning for the entire campus community. These co-working spaces are at the intersection of departments and disciplines and we assist students and faculty with courses and research. We host many analog and digital tools for making and fabricating including 3D printers laser cutters and CNC milling machines.
