44 Daughters

The 44 Daughters was conceived by Sam Montgomery, an artist who lives in New York City, to give a voice for people who are different. The 44 Daughters is a project that began when he was a student at a music academy when he made 44 dolls that lived in his dorm room. Every doll is lovingly handmade by Sam. He draws the patterns for the Dolls, stitches them all by hand, stuffs them, and creates their faces with buttons from his grandmother's button box and hair from yarn. Each Doll is tagged and numbered to show that it's an original in the artist's series. No two dolls are alike. The dolls represent what it is to be special and unique. They are all the same, but different, and should be celebrated for who they are and not be judged for how they look. The Collection has now grown from 44 Daughters to include Sons, Cancer Survivors, Wounded Warriors and Hearts. Sam is also the author of an illustrated book, "What It's Like to Be Different," that uses his dolls as the characters in a story

Thayer (1895) - Built in Humboldt Bay, this rugged West Coast schooner hauled lumber, traded salmon, and fished cod before braving the Pacific. Today, it stands as the last of its kind. ⚓ Eppleton Hall (1914) - A rare English-built steam tugboat with independent grasshopper engines powering its iconic side-wheels—an engineering marvel of its time. ⚓ Balclutha (1886) - A mighty Scottish square-rigger with an iron hull, built to conquer the high seas. It rounded Cape Horn 17 times, blending brute sail power with industrial-age innovation.

Hello! My name is Riley Auer, and I‘m the owner of Bootleg Boomerangs, a handmade wooden boomerangs company that makes uniquely shaped boomerangs that actually come back! We started our brand in 2020 and have been growing it ever since. We started out of my parents‘ garage, then moved our production right into The Rivet itself, and currently make them out of a dedicated workshop in Buffalo, NY. As a Penn State alum, I am delighted to take part in this event. Any excuse to come down to State College again sounds delightful. I plan to sell a few different types of my boomerang models and Bootleg Boomerang t-shirts. I also look forward to teaching Maker Faire visitors how boomerangs come back.
