My project for the Maker Faire 2023 is a unique and engaging musical performance as DJ Evol-T. What sets it apart is the distinctive pedal-powered element brought to us by Rock The Bike, which adds an environmentally friendly and interactive layer to the experience. I am a multi-genre mixer, electrifying crowds with vibrant sets, artist features, and audience engagement. DJ Evol-T is not just about offering incredibly entertaining performances. It's about engaging the audience actively, pushing the boundaries of traditional music events and promoting an environmentally conscious message. Rest assured, the audience at the Maker Faire 2023 will be captivated by the sustainable, energetic, and highly interactive music experiences that DJ Evol-T along with Rock The Bike deliver.

The Electronic Jug Band

An exhibit showing how to use the latest low cost microcontroller and sensor technologies to create DIY electronic music instruments. The design and building of such instruments is a hands-on learning experience in both maker electronics and music concepts. The idea is similar to the creation of a Jug Band in the mid 1900s where individuals used household materials to create their instruments and then played them together to make music. In this case however the use of modern electronics provides many more possibilities and a much larger scope for creativity.

Foods of the future: between biodiversity, circular economy and agritech: An accurate nutritional regimen stands as a pivotal health determinant among all life-ages. Within this context, promoting nutritional biodiversity and foods capable of guaranteeing both productivity and high nutritional value as well as in the context of climate change, represent one of the main challenges of our millennium. Environmental sustainability and waste reduction in the food supply chain are issues consumers are becoming increasingly sensitive to. For years UCBM has been working on those subjects, in particular: i) Identifying better resistant crop varieties to adverse environmental conditions or varieties with peculiar nutritional characteristics. ii) Refining green methods to extract bioactive molecules with high-added value for their potential employment in nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals, etc., from secondary raw materials that so far only assumed a low or negative economic value within the supply chain iii) Developing sensor-based and robotic systems to identify the health status of the plant to allow an intervention of greater precision in the various agricultural processes, to optimize the production and the harvesting of the edible parts. At the Maker Faire, some projects, and experimental tools by the research groups in Food and Nutrition Science will be exposed, biomedical measurements and instruments and advanced robotics.

Inclusive project-based learning through making helps youth develop mathematical understanding, computational thinking, and spatial reasoning. The MPACT (Math and Computational Thinking Through 3D Making) team developed projects for youth in grades 4-7 with hands-on, research-based, empathy-grounded making activities. We will have a hands-on activity from a 7th grade project but works for older & younger people with the right supports. Visitors will be invited to use low-tech making materials such as cardboard, tape, foam core, and felt to design a board game for the visually impaired. They will also contribute to a group project to modify a dice using CAD & a 3D printer. Open-source guides and handouts for all projects will be available for download & the MPACT team will answer questions.
