Bubo-2T

Faire: Rome

Maker: Kevin McAleer

WHAT IS BUBO-2T Bubo-2T is a robotic owl made in the Steampunk style. INSPIRATION Bubo was the name of the clockwork owl in the 1981 movie Clash of the Titans. It was animated by Ray Harryhousen. I’ve taken inspiration from other movie characters such as the Nautilus from the movie 20,000 Leagues under the Sea. I was also inspired by Tick Tock - the clockwork tin man from the movie Return to Oz. My other inspirations are creators of companion robots, such as Alex Glow and her Archie robot, Jorvon Moss, and also creators of wearable tech, such as Naomi Wu and Sophy Wong. Bubo-2T features advanced AI and machine learning and can detect hand gestures made in front of it. FEATURES 2 large eyes that open and close using 2 servers, one per eye Opening and closing mouth Each eye contains an Neopixel ring that is animated via a Raspberry Pi Pico The Pico is also connected via UART to a Raspberry Pi 4 2Gb One of the eyes also contains a Raspberry Pi Camera 3 Wide module The camera module enables the user to strike a pose, the hand gestures are detected and the camera will take a picture and tweet it to Twitter or Toot it to Mastodon (thats what the 2T or tooty means). For more information about Bubo-2T visit www.kevsrobots.com/bubo

Keeping Miners Safe With Arduino

Safety is a paramount concern in the mining industry, given the high-risk nature of activities involved. Workers engaged in drilling, blasting, excavation, and heavy machinery operations face potential hazards that can jeopardize their well-being. To ensure their protection and prevent accidents with severe consequences, Jhansi has developed a groundbreaking solution: the mining worker safety helmet. This innovative helmet goes beyond traditional head protection by integrating additional features designed to enhance worker safety in the mining environment. It serves as a workforce guardian, actively working to safeguard the miners’ lives. By leveraging technology, Jhansi has created a powerful tool that not only prevents head injuries but also offers a suite of functionalities to mitigate risks.

USE OF AI FOR THE MAPPING OF AGRI-ENVIRONMENTAL XENBIOTIC CONTAMINATION USING TERRITORIAL MICRO-SAMPLING CARRIED OUT BY BEES

Faire: Rome

Maker: FOSAN ETS

Bees play a fundamental role in ecosystems and are present throughout the territory (at our latitude). The bee carries out its collection and pollination activity in a radius ranging between 2 and 10 km, and is attracted only by plants and clean water, avoiding contact with any waste and/or waste material. Every day, on average, a worker bee visits up to 7,000 flowers, fulfilling its very important role for the ecosystem. Any xenobiotic contamination present in the materials collected by bees and derived products are representative of the contamination of the flora and surface waters of the area where the hive is located. Fosan is starting the creation of a mapping of sentinel hives located throughout the country, in order to monitor the conditions of environmental risk from xenobiotic contamination. The analytical data referring to the samples taken in the various "sentinel hives" are processed with AI techniques to identify level curves of xenobiotic contamination and related hotspots, and the presumed connections with human activities. With AI, the presumed correlations between the recorded anthropic activities and the levels of contamination of the hive products are identified.

DIY Math Games and Puzzles

Faire: Bay Area

Maker: Alternative Education

Home: California, United States

My project aims to provide children and families with a unique opportunity to experience mathematics through games. These DIY games are designed to have a low entry barrier and a high potential for engagement, encouraging kids to think critically and solve problems. Additionally, recently I have reached out to Mr. Cixin Liu, the renowned author of 'The Three-Body Problem' and recipient of the 2015 Hugo Award, and have received authorization to incorporate intellectual property from his science fiction works into the games, presenting children with meaningful puzzles to solve. Through this project, I hope to help children understand the importance of mathematics and its relationship with science, while also recognizing and appreciating the beauty and value of math.
