SASA – Sapienza Rocket Team

Minerva is the flagship project of Sapienza Rocket Team, a sounding rocket whose expected altitude touches 3000 m. It will be the result of the knowledge and skills acquired over the years by the Team members. Starting from the optimization of the external aerodynamics using specific algorithms, moving on to implementing an airbrake system designed to guarantee maximum precision in reaching the mission altitude, it will be made almost entirely of composite materials to ensure the best structural performance.

This project is a hardware-software platform that aims at optimizing street lighting through the use of LoRa (long-range) communication technology. Electronics and sensors detect the passage of vehicles on a road section. A central computer determines the optimal light intensity that a road section should receive during low-light hours. Thanks to this technology, it is possible to enable dynamic street lighting according to traffic, with evident energy savings, especially if applied on a large scale. We will demonstrate various ways to produce an heirloom spoon. We split logs into billets, which are shaped into blanks, from which the spoons are carved. We will demonstrate the use of chopping blocks, spoon mules and shaving horses (all of which we designed and built by hand). It is a popular element of our involvement that the public ask us a lot of questions about the trees on their property. Parents and kids can all take turns using our safer equipment, which is always very popular!
