Diet Coke and Mentos Geyser Extravaganza
Maker Faire Bay Area 2024
October 18th-20th
We set up 102 bottles of Diet Coke (or similar soda) with custom designed, handmade nozzle screwed to the top of each bottle. Each nozzle holds 6 Mentos candies held in by a pin. When that pin is pulled the Mentos fall and shoot a geyser 20' in the air. We set off the bottles in a choreographed fountain show inspired by the Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas. We always make a point of explaining the science behind it all, and teach the audience how to make their own geyers at home and even how to make our custom nozzles. The show is a LOT of fun, for both the audience and for us. We love Maker Faire.

My partner, Fritz Grobe and I have done our Diet Coke & Mentos geyser extravaganza at every Bay Area Maker Faire since the second one, as well as all the NY World Maker Faire shows and other Maker Faires around the country and around the world. Shortly before the pandemic hit, we did performances at Cairo Maker Faire (Mini-Maker Faire?) which included a special performance in front of the Great Pyramids of Giza. We've done a lot of other, non-Maker Faire shows over the years too, but doing Maker Faires has always been our favorite.
