Coal Shed Alley Sat & Sun Exhibit Things That Go

FS-2 is a Formula-style vehicle designed by students at UC Santa Cruz for participation in the Formula SAE Electric competition. It’s equipped with a single Zero Motorcycles ZF 75-10 motor that drives the two rear wheels with up to 80 kW of power. The battery pack and its associated electronics are also designed and assembled in-house, with a capacity of 5.2 kWh. The vehicle features a welded chromoly frame, a custom outboard assembly with a floating brake rotor design, and a combination of a pushrod and rocker arm system for suspension. The electronics system resembles one you might see in a real consumer vehicle, with custom-designed PCBAs, an electronic throttle control system, precharge/discharge circuits, battery management, telemetry, and rigorous safety standards.

Our club provides students an opportunity to learn engineering, manufacturing, and business skills. Founded in 2016, we've build 3 cars so far, moving onto our 4th this coming year.
