Alex creates IoT projects, tutorials, and video interviews as the lead Hardware Nerd for the Hackster.io community. She grew into electronics as a FIRST Robotics kid, and then through hackerspaces including AHA and Noisebridge. Since then, she’s been building brainwave-powered wings, smart holographic cameras, spacefaring music, and her AI-powered robot owl familiar (the shy Archimedes).
Odd Jayy
Hi, I am Jay, a maker from Compton. I started making after my 2nd year of college; I wanted to do more than just draw, I wanted to create something physical – something I could hold. Through some research I found myself falling in love with robotics. I self-studied everything I could on how to make robots and and 3D design, saved up and bought a 3d printer, and have been making ever since.

What inspired you to begin investigating your topic or inspired you to make your project?:
Alex always wanted to have a wizard's familiar, and is fascinated by the way that the design of a robot influences people's emotional and behavioral response to it. Jayy wanted a companion to tinker on, and took inspiration from African traditional mythology. We were both inspired by the joy of building robots, and the challenge of designing a creature companion.
