South Fayette High School's STEM Team has confronted a number of public health and safety issues using human-centered design to innovate and fabricate creative solutions. Join us as we share our projects and discuss how high school students can use this process to address issues in your community.
James Hausman III
I teach English at South Fayette HS. I became a maker two years ago after attending a MakerEd training at Autodesk in San Francisco. Since then, I've become a MakerEd devotee. I have become LUMA trained in human-centered design, mentored our SFHS STEM Team, advised my students to victory in the Digital Promise national FilmMAKER Challenge, and created a storytelling elective for student designers.
Parv Shrivastava
I am a leader, critical thinker, and avid learner with a passion in STEM fields. For our distracted driving prevention system, I worked on prototyping and programming various components as the team leader. In addition to working on our innovative solution, I have built and programmed robots that competed at world championships, conducted bioinformatics research, and taught Python classes.
Suraj Bokil
My name is Suraj Bokil. I am a passionate and energetic individual who likes to sing, dance, and program! I have utilized programs such as C++, Java, and Arduino. Additionally, I have a passion for singing and performing. I have performed in musicals such as “Mary Poppins," sung Western music and Indian classical music for 8 years. Happiness, creativity, and uniqueness build my character.
Pranav Dantu
Hello, my name is Pranav Dantu and I am 15 years old. I am an ambitious student in school who shares interests in the fields of computer science and computer engineering. My interests in these fields has motivated me to pursue multiple projects, including KYHU. As a member of the KYHU team, I was responsible for programming the application as well as helping in product testing and designing.
Prateek Jukalkar
My name is Prateek Jukalkar, and I am a junior at South Fayette High School. As part of the PA Governor’s STEM Team, I worked primarily on creating the documentation that tells the story of how our solution for the distracted driving epidemic progressed and eventually came to fruition. I have diverse interests and plan on majoring in computer science and journalism in college.
Swathi Senthil
Hi, my name is Swathi Senthil, and I am a sophomore at South Fayette. I worked on the documentation, product planning, and creative design of our project, KYHU. I am the vice president of my class and participate in many clubs and activities, such as Student Government, FBLA, and TSA. Outside of school, I play competitive chess and am a member of an all-girls robotics team.
Siddhartha Khajanchi
As a freshman, I have participated in the PA STEM competition along with my teammates as I have a passion for speaking and business. I contributed to the documentation of the product and conducted interviews with community members regarding the product. I contacted various insurance agencies and entrepreneurs to pitch our idea. I was also responsible for user testing of our product.
