Escama Studio
Maker Faire Bay Area 2017
May 19th-21st
Escama Studio makes bags and accessories from post-consumer recycled soda can tabs. Handmade in Brazil by fair trade artisan collectives, each piece is exquisitely finished, polished and lined, and comes signed by the artist who made it.
Andy Krumholz
In 2002 I decided to take a long awaited trip to Brazil. It was there that I saw the traditional handicraft of crochet-with-tabs and from the moment I saw it I knew that I wanted to somehow adapt this traditional craft for the average consumer. With the help of friends we've been able to create a sustainable business that has survived for over 12 years and in the process has sustained the lives of 65 Brazilian artisans and their families.
