Making Pyrographic Memories

Making Pyrographic Memories

Learn the ancient art of Pyrography (wood-burning) using traditional tools and techniques via a free make and take. Open to all Young Makers (and those who remember being young once upon a time)

What inspired you to make this project?:
Woodworking is a valuable skill. The art of wood-burning reinforces the fine motor skills kids (and adults) need to be successful in STEM based activities. My passion, besides Young Makers, Makerspaces and the Maker Mindset, is for people to be equipped, enabled, and inspired to make the world they envision. My "day job" is in the crafting industry and those traditional handicrafts that once were commonplace are no longer taught in schools and around the kitchen table/worksheds. Every year, my family and I find a traditional craft that teaches a skill that can be shared. In year's past, we've taught leatherwork, metal work, textiles, paper piecing, and carving. This year we chose wood because we have yet to teach it.
