Travel back to 1984, when the Monterey Bay Aquarium was working to be the first aquarium to ever exhibit living kelp. Aquarium engineers and scientists had to collaborate to create an exhibit with ideal conditions for kelp growth. Now it's your turn!

Since we opened in 1984, more than two million schoolchildren and teachers have come through our doors—for free. We offer in-depth programs for students, teens and teachers that reach thousands more each year.
