SU and LIL Clean Water Challenge

SU and LIL Clean Water Challenge

Makers Without Borders hosts a competition for solar water pasteurization systems made of commonly available hardware. We will deploy the best designs in developing countries.

What inspired you to make this project?:
This project was inspired by lessons learned during Singularity University's Graduate Studies Program. During this 10 week experience we had a great deal of interaction with NGO's such as UNICEF that explained the challenges associated with designing solutions for the developing world. Further work for UNICEF on clean water technologies after the GSP program led us to focus on solar water pasteurization as one of the more promising technologies given the simple hardware required and the abundant free energy provided by the sun. Lowe’s Innovation Labs and Singularity University partnered to host an open source competition at a Bay Area Lowe’s location later this summer using hardware from their store.
