Fiber Optic Formalwear and LED Space Helmets

Fiber Optic Formalwear and LED Space Helmets

Makers Jenn and Zach teamed up to create an eye-dazzling wearable light show for nighttime festivals. Fiber optics and addressable LEDs illuminate a handmade dress and a tuxedo jacket in colorful, ever-changing patterns. LED space helmets, too!

What inspired you to make this project?:
My dress was originally inspired by an Instructable by designer Natalie Walsh. I created my own lighting system for it so the colors could be reprogrammed to anything I chose. Zach and I worked in parallel to each make a piece of our own, both of which we had a hunch would look dazzling at Burning Man (and we completed them just in time for Burning Man 2014). The first LED space helmet was made for a Major Tom costume at a David Bowie themed Halloween party, where it was such a hit that I made several more.
