The Learning Shelter is a new way of helping the homeless. From lasercutting to CAD to local manufacturing, we're teaching modern skills in digital fabrication to give homeless the tools to create their own opportunities to flourish.

Albert Chi Maker Picture

Albert Chi

Albert is the Executive Director of The Learning Shelter and works with Marc to create makerspaces for civic innovation. He's a graduate of MIT whose experiences include developing nanodevices using high-resolution 3D printing and growing stem cells.

Marc Roth Maker Picture

Marc Roth

Marc Roth hacked his way out of homelessness through makerspaces. After becoming homeless, Marc discovered TechShop and absorbed all things maker, which opened up new doors for him. He started The Learning Shelter to help other homeless do the same.

Duane Allen Maker Picture

Duane Allen

Duane is one of the first graduates of The Learning Shelter. He picked up skills so quickly he was hired from the program within a month. He has since moved into his own apartment, gone off government assistance, and started an art brand (All Heart).
