Learn how a Dobsonian Telescope works and how you can make your own! Demonstrations will be held on grinding glass to make a mirror for a Newtonian telescope. Various telescopes will be on exhibit to show how the optics and mechanics work.

Douglas Smith

Douglas Smith is an Amateur Telescope Maker. FirstLight was his first telescope completed in 2010 after taking the class at the Randall Museum from John Dobson. Smith now teaches the Dobsonian Telescope Making class at the Randall Museum.

George Teiber

Previously an Architect and craftsman, George now co-teaches the Dobsonian Telescope Making class at the Randall Museum in SF. His first an 8" telescope with great craftsmanship, second was a compact travel scope. Next is one built from salvage.
