DIY as a Subculture and Skateboarding
Home: Tashkent, Uzbekistan
The DIY subculture, an interesting derivative of the global DIY movement, stems the 1970s punk scene and is characterized by self-reliance and independent creation and distribution of music, media, and crafts. It involves individuals and communities taking direct action to produce their own work rather than relying on traditional, professional, or corporate channels. I will give a tour of things attributed to the DIY subculture with a special emphasis on skateboarding, discuss the benefits of this subculture, and talk about DIY skateboarding efforts in Tashkent, Central Asia, and the world.

What Inspired You to Make This?
DIY can sometimes be mistaken as "uncool" and something done by engineering geeks only. However, DIY mindset is great for everyone for many reasons, so I wanted to show it can be actually cool! Besides, in our DIY projects we learn a lot, and I believe knowledge should be documented and spread for the benefit of others.
