Maker Faire Coney Island 2025
New York Sun Works
Home: New York, United States of America
In our workshop, participants will have the opportunity to create their very own passive hydroponic systems, with all supplies needed to grow their seedling at home. We will begin with an informational presentation on the science of hydroponics and its importance in urban landscapes. Participants will then discuss and dispel common climate myths. Fair attendees can also visit the NY Sun Works booth to see a mini hydroponic system in action.

New York Sun Works
NY Sun Works is a non-profit that builds Hydroponic Classrooms in city schools to teach the science of sustainability through urban farming. Through our comprehensive curriculum, we engage K-12 students and educators in hands-on, standards-based sustainability and climate education – all while students grow hundreds of pounds of produce per year.

We believe a sustainable future starts in the classroom. Using state-of-the-art hydroponic farming technology, students don’t just learn about the science of sustainability – they live it. Our curriculum ignites the joy of learning through the science of sustainability, transforming students into knowledgeable and confident Farmer Scientists. By growing fresh, nutritious food from seed-to-harvest, students gain invaluable insights into the connections between humans, technology, and the environment, and their direct relationship to climate change.
