Geni: AI Storytelling Toy for Kids
Home: Massachussets, United States
Geni is a screen-free storytelling toy that transforms kids’ ideas into endless audio adventures. Using physical tiles, kids mix and match characters, settings, and objects to create their own stories, and Geni brings them to life in real time with generative AI. From mashups like “mermaids in space” to entirely new worlds, every play session is unique, interactive, and fueled by imagination. Hands-on and screen-free, Geni turns storytelling into an open-ended playground where kids aren’t just listening, they’re creating.

Geni
We’re a team from MIT and Harvard creating Geni, the first AI-powered storytelling toy for kids ages 4–8. We believe children’s curiosity should drive their learning, and our mission is to empower kids to explore, create, and grow. Combining expertise in AI, design, and child development, we build playful tools that transform imagination into meaningful learning experiences.
What Inspired You to Make This?
We were inspired by a simple idea: children’s curiosity should lead their learning. We wanted to create a tool that makes imagination the starting point for hands-on exploration, not just passive play. By combining physical play with AI storytelling, we can turn kids’ ideas into interactive adventures, helping them learn, experiment, and discover in ways that feel fun, engaging, and entirely their own.
