Maker Faire Bay Area 2023
A Thousand Ways to Wear / TShirt Upcycle
Home: California, United States
THE RETURN OF MAKER FAIRE BAY AREA! 1000 Ways to Wear: miss velvet cream Neocouture presentation of wearable outfits made from upcycled Tshirts. The pieces are all made from past year's deadstock Maker Faire Bay Area shirts. These 5 outfits are presented on a series of femme sewing dressforms, sized from 4-12. Remake of deadstock (produced but unworn, unsold pieces) transforms waste into a garment given new life and a new story. These pieces are all wild, extravagant miss velvet cream creations, all upcycled- cut, stitched, ruffled, flounced, ripped, tied, layered, embellished, stretched, and stitched again. These outfits are all sustainable fashion, handmade, and infused with meaning and value from the simplest TShirts. Let's dream together what we could wear in the future, today!

miss velvet cream has been part of Maker Faire over many years, and I always appreciate the creativity, the open exchange of ideas, skills and methods. As an artist and designer, I feel open handed with what I create- and Maker Faire has been a culture of transformation and collaboration that I see as the fundamental assets to the future on this planet. As a clothing artist, now working exclusively in upcycled and remade garments, I collect unwanted, discarded and sometimes beautiful, unworn or unused clothing items, fabrics and materials and transform waste into treasures. Not only do I want to share the methods of remake, I want to share the culture of finding beauty in the transformation. Maker Faire had gifted me a large quantity of old deadstock T-Shirts years ago, and I'm delighted to transform them into dreams of what sustainability looks like in clothing, what we could wear, and I hope to inspire and connect though creativity.
