Drone Day Build-a-Thon
Drone workshops for adults
The Drone Day Build-a-Thon is intended for adults seeking to learn to build and fly a high performance drone. Join the ranks of drone enthusiasts with a comprehensive, all-inclusive drone construction and flight training workshop at the Hiller Aviation Museum! This is a 6-hour intensive workshop with two different registration options available.
Time: 10:00am – 4:00 pm
Location: Hiller Aviation Museum, San Carlos, CA

Fees: $375-$595 — discount available for members. Primary participant must be 18 years or older to register. Registration includes admission for up to 2 additional persons ages 14+ to participate in construction and flight training with a single Hiro aircraft.

Visionary Hero Awards

The 3rd annual SMIW Visionary Hero Awards recognizes and celebrates firms and organizations who have made substantial contributions to the development of San Mateo as a center for start-ups and entrepreneurial innovation.

Virtual Reality (VR) Demo Day
Time: 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm
Location: San Mateo Main Library, Oak Room
Virtual reality and augmented reality technologies are finding new ways to enhance our ability to perceive the world that surrounds us.
At San Mateo Innovation Week, the most creative minds and innovative technologies showcase the latest in VR technology. VR start-ups are presenting their latest creations. VR is used in education, training, video games, fine arts, architectural design, urban design and therapy.
This event is open to all ages! Be prepared to be entertained and engaged at VR Demo Day!

San Mateo EDGE Innovation Week
Youth in Innovation

The event celebrates local high school students creativtiy and innovation.
This event is open to all ages for project viewing and discussion. Hand selected students will present their projects in the evening’s innovative competition.

Start Making! Engaging Young People & Volunteers in Maker Activities
Join GSVLabs EdTech Innovation Lab member, Team4Tech, and authors for a chance to dive into an equity-based approach to facilitating maker activities with young people. Come try a project from Maker Media’s recently published book “Start Making!: A Guide to Engaging Young People in Maker Activities”!
