Graham Hawkes ocean engineer/inventor designed and built more than 60 manned submersibles from atmospheric dive suits to flying subs. He held the record for the deepest solo ocean dive for over 20 years. Currently, he runs HAWX Open Ocean, whose mission is to design and build revolutionary, safe, affordable and manned and unmanned technologies with the goal of enabling undersea access for all.

Graham Hawkes, inventor of flighting submersibles, the Sea Rocket and founder of HAWX Open Ocean, shares his aquatic insights, kit and community submersible plans and DIY designs that enable anyone with access to a basic workshop, a small boat and an action camera to become an underwater explorer.
What inspired you to begin investigating your topic or inspired you to make your project?:
Driven by the need to make our ocean planet a better place for his grandkids, world-renown marine engineer and owner of HAWX Open Ocean, Graham Hawkes designed the Sea Rocket to make exploring more than 70% (how much of the plant’s surface is covered by the ocean) of our ocean planet possible for everyone, especially kids.
