Pele's Path

"Pele's Path" is an interactive lava map of Hawaii that uses fiber optics and USGS data to illustrate lava flows. Come learn about past and present lava flows and how they affect residents living near an active volcano.

What inspired you to make this project?:
I was born and raised in Hawaii, and upon returning this last summer, I was amazing to see the natural disaster slowly encroaching upon the largely rural district of Puna. The volcano is affecting the entire town in a slow motion and inevitable natural disaster. I want to combine a simple and informative visual layout and the effects of this disaster on the local community. I wanted to share scientific information coupled with personal experiences and stories that permeate the local communities of this lesser known area of Hawaii.
