RumiCar, autonomous driving algorithms development platform
Home: Tokyo, Japan
RumiCar aims to make autonomous driving development accessible to everyone. Developing autonomous driving systems with full-sized cars is expensive and requires public road permits, making it challenging, especially for individuals. With RumiCar, users can develop autonomous driving systems at low cost using 1/24 scale cars, all within the convenience of their homes or school classrooms. As RumiCar users help each other worldwide, the advancement and realization of autonomous driving technology will become more achievable.

RumiCar
RumiCar is an informal organization founded and managed by Rumika, who is the founder and project owner. The members, including myself, work on RumiCar during our free time, outside of our regular jobs. We are all enthusiasts or have a keen interest in autonomous driving, electronics, robotics, and programming.

When I was 15, it was my first year of high school in 2012. In my second year, we had to conduct a year-long research project, and I was unsure of my topic. Every morning during breakfast, I saw a TV commercial for the Subaru Impreza with EyeSight. It showed an actor pressing the accelerator, and the car automatically stopping in front of a wall with a printed car. I wondered why this was just a pre-crash function and not fully autonomous driving. I didn’t realize how difficult achieving full autonomous driving was. So, I chose autonomous driving as my thesis topic. After graduating high school, I realized the technology behind autonomous vehicles is complex. I understood that individual efforts have limitations. By turning my high school research into RumiCar, I aimed to combine people's skills and perspectives to accelerate the development of autonomous driving.
