A Moment of Love

Faire: Coney Island

Maker: Parsons Design+Technology

How can love at first sight be emulated through an immersive sensory experience? This installation invites visitors into a soft, otherworldly encounter where shifting light, layered sounds, and delicate lenses blur distance and perception. Poetic visuals drift with responsive sensors, transforming fleeting emotions into an intimate moment. ‘A Moment of Love’ translates an emotionally complex notion into an experiential and interactive medium, using a combination of material poetry, physical properties of light and optics, layered sounds, and hypnotic visuals. It isolates the viewers from their surroundings, mirroring the figure-group relationship identified in romantic films as the first spark of love.

OTC – Orbital ToolChanger: Multi-Material 3D Tiskárna

Faire: Prague

Maker: Adam Voleš

Faire: Bay Area

Maker: Aditu Arts

Home: Lagos, Nigeria

AI-generated art has become a huge phenomenon over the past couple of years. Very recently, AI-generated Ghibli-style versions of pictures have sparked a prominent conversation on social media about AI and its artistic capabilities. Aditu intends to bring this conversation to the Maker Faire. The AI Mirror brings AI-styled art to a real-time "Mirror" interface: Participants stand in front of the Mirror and see an AI-modified reflection of themselves. People will see themselves being reflected in Ghibli, Anime, cultural, etc styles. The reflection mimics their movements and gestures (like looking in a normal mirror), but its visually modified by AI in ways that spark curiosity and conversation.

Baxterbots

Faire: Happy Valley

Maker: Dan Baxter

Home: Pennsylvania, United States

My work explores the deconstruction of antiques and their transformation into robotic art. This project, RustyBot, combines vintage materials with modern electronics to create a robot that moves, lights up, and speaks. At its core is a Raspberry Pi controlling servos, sound and music hats, NeoPixel LEDs, and solenoids, all integrated through custom-designed PCB boards. A built-in wireless access point and webpage allow visitors to control the robot’s sounds, lights, and movements in real time. Much of the coding was developed with the assistance of ChatGPT, blending human creativity with AI collaboration. Alongside the finished robot, I will also display a working prototype rig that exposes the wiring, components, and code, making the inner workings transparent and easy to understand

Raspberry pi analog musical light show

Faire: Bay Area

I am a technology teacher in district 75 New York City. Over the last two years I have used the program and language scratch that have my students write their own program to fire solenoid to play on glockenspiel (Mental Xylopgone made of mettle not wood). At this last year's district stem fair my students put a speaker in a cylinder, covered in rubber, added a mirror and pointed the lasers at it. This resulted in a musical light show playoff the ceiling. We have also used old floppy drives to build a musical instrument that plays mid files.
