Light Work

What is life without light? The Sun brings warmth and the gift of sight, yet also casts our shadows. This is my attempt at changing the way we perceive light. Using a variety of liquids, oils and dyes, I attempt to bend light into different shapes and forms. These images were taken by me in my home in an attempt to preserve a moment. Use this time to appreciate your light and make friends with your shadow.

Fogtown is a world of baffling mystery and heartfelt humor, where classic puppetry meets cutting-edge virtual production. We're creating a video game and TV series set in Fogtown, a reimagining of Sherlock Holmes starring our puppet detectives Sherblock and Blockson, who solve baffling cases and get hilariously sidetracked along the way. Using handcrafted puppets and digital sets built in Blender and Unreal Engine, we've developed a DIY production pipeline that lets us shoot live puppetry against interactive virtual environments — an affordable spin on the “ Volume” stages used in modern Hollywood. The result is a blend of old-school charm and digital magic that we're sure will inspire you! At our booth, you can: - Play the demo of A Rum Case in Fogtown, our branching narrative video game - See how we film Fogtown using affordable virtual production techniques - Learn how to apply our process to your own creative projects! Het studentenhuis is een wereld die bekendstaat om haar tradities, haar hiërarchie, haar geslotenheid. Van buitenaf roept die geslotenheid vaak weerstand op: wat valt er te verbergen? Maar van binnenuit voelt ze anders. Ze vormt een sociale structuur die zowel houvast als druk geeft, waarin vriendschap en onderwerping soms naadloos in elkaar overlopen. Door zijn lens probeert Ezra vast te leggen wat hij zelf heeft beleefd en bevraagd: hoe verhoudt een individu zich tot een cultuur die hem zowel draagt als vormt? Waar ligt de grens tussen steun en conformisme? De hiërarchie die de groep structuur geeft, kan zowel onderdrukkend als beschermend zijn. De rituelen die een gemeenschap definiëren, kunnen zowel dwingend als verbindend werken. Hij probeert een wereld in beelden te vangen die vaak in clichés wordt gevat. Niet om haar te verklaren of te verdedigen, maar om zichtbaar te maken wat normaal verborgen blijft.

Představíme jednotlivé nabízené studijní obory a s jakými technologiemi a vybavením lze u nás pracovat. Interaktivní ukázky máme nachystané v oblastech: - 3D tisk - Robotika - Virtuální a Augmentová realita - Výroba propagačních materiálů - Tvorba a produkce videí a fotek Co se týče interakce, tak každý návštěvník si může zkusit například brýle pro virtuální nebo augmentovou realitu a zkusit si, jak to lze využít efektivně ve výuce. Bude možnost se podívat na výrobu propagačních materiálů jakou jsou trička a placky. Rovněž máme ukázku z 3D tisku. V oblasti robotiky máme nachystanou ukázku robotických systémů, které si tvoříme pomocí Lego mindstorms. Připravených věcí máme více, stačí se přijít podívat 😉

Collective Bloom presented by CADRE Student Org from SJSU

The CADRE Student Organization and the CADRE Laboratory for New Digital Media are excited to present a collection of digital media projects headlined by “ Collective Bloom,” an interactive projection mapped artwork created by a team of student artists working in both 2D and 3D digital art mediums. Collective Bloom Each flower, like animals and humans, carries its unique beauty and meaning. This project invited artists to create their unique flowers, a reflection of their style and identity. The origin, bloom time, and lifespan of these flowers are not important. What matters is the powerful message they convey: that everyone possesses their natural charm. This visual celebration is not complete without the audience, who are invited to admire the beauty of the flowers and the diverse stories and personalities they represent. CADRE S.O. Mosaic Through the collaboration of the organization members, the light boxes have been brought back to Maker Faire with a new design! Composed of 10 sections of laser cut artwork that spells out the organization's name, the light boxes are illuminated with a shifting color sequence. Video Arcade Cabinet The Game Development Club at SJSU will be bringing new games and prototypes presented on a custom-built, classic arcade cabinet. PictoPocket – E-Ink Photo Magnet

We are PictoPocket, a Maker duo (Engineer and Artist) from San Francisco. We wanted to design a beautiful way to take digital memories into the real world, and noticed existing digital photo frames look more like screens than art pieces. Our flagship product- PictoPocket, is a cute photo magnet that users can easily “ expose” unlimited new images from their phone with Bluetooth to the E-Paper display. It looks like paper and lasts years on a single coin cell battery. We have come a long way since we first showcased our idea at MakerFaire 2023! Since then we've designed an injection molded case and improved the quality and reliability of the product, and apps for iOS and Android. We can't wait to share it with the maker community!

Open Source Hardware and Software

Two open source hardware projects on display. One is a mostly 3D printed 35mm analog film to digital camera scanner. Resolves analog 35mm negatives to near their original resolution. The second is a mostly 3D printed 8mm analog film to 4K HD digital movie scanner. Both of these projects show the power of free and open source hardware projects to deliver results that are superior to most widely available commercial alternatives. The third part of the exhibition is Free and Open Source software, particularly for CAD design. We focus on OpenScad and Freecad with information to show how using this software can avoid a lifetime of paid subscription fees for closed source alternatives.
