Algorimithic Photographic Collage of Live Painting

Faire: Coney Island

Maker: Tommy Mintz

Home: New York, United States of America

The Automated Digital Photo Collage (ADPC) is an algorithm that analyses sequential photographs for differences and generates a collage. At Maker Faire Coney Island, the ADPC will be run on a Raspberry Pi computer connected to a camera that is pointed at a painting and the at the viewers of the painting. The ADPC will create a collage that unlike a human picking areas of interest to include. I am interested in the seams that arise when combining images algorithmically instead of by hand. Layering areas of its own choosing, the ADPC creates a decidedly nonhuman view, which intrigues with its logic and strange algorithmic humor. The ADPC echoes our human struggle to remember in this moment in the inception of digital augmentation.
