Faire: Baton Rouge

In this workshop, LSU Digital Art Prof. Christine Bruening will teach practical skills for personal archives: using apps to 3D scan heirlooms. So much of life takes place online now, from messages and photos to the digitalization of objects through 3D scanning apps. As our memories become less physical, we’re left with a pressing question: what happens to these digital histories when we pass? Learn more about Bruening's exhibition, DISK FULL at https://mailchi.mp/lsu/diskfull

Giant Camera Obscura

Faire: Baton Rouge

Maker: BRMHS STEM Club

Home: Louisiana, United States of America

Get ready to shrink down and step inside a working camera! Our massive, walk-in Camera Obscura is an immersive, educational exhibit that demonstrates the foundational science of optics and photography. This exhibit teaches visitors exactly how a camera works. You will: See Light in Action: Watch as light rays pass through a single small opening (a pinhole) and project a live, inverted image of the outside world onto the inner wall. Understand Inversion: Directly observe why all cameras—from your smartphone to a professional DSLR—naturally flip the image upside-down. Connect the Concepts: Learn how this simple principle, discovered centuries ago, is still at the core of all modern photographic technology.

Kasey Ball and Kerem Ergener Scores Two Short Films by Maya Deren

Faire: Baton Rouge

Maker: Kerem Ergener

Home: Louisiana, United States of America

Throughout his residency in Louisiana, Kerem's love for jazz reached a level that he wanted to combine the avant-garde jazz sounds he adores with his electronics. He invited his trumpeter friend, Kasey Ball, to start a new project that would combine his unique approach to the brass instruments, which he had developed over his decades-long experience in New Orleans. Kasey Ball's unique harmonization technique and his alteration of his trumpet with the effect pedal rig he built create unearthly sounds. Combining these sounds with Kerem's moody textures, strictly swinging drums, and samples, they produced works that delve into the potential for new sounds, changing your understanding of jazz and electronics. In this performance Masey and Kerem score two Maya Deren films live on stage.
