They will also be demonstrating their ceramic 3D printer which prints objects out of regular, stoneware pottery clay. The club will also have handmade pottery, glass, and laser-cut items available for purchase.

First Person View Aircraft – Aaron Vandegrift

I build, fly, and race First Person View drones and RC planes. First Person View Drones are a category of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. These drones often are used to provide smooth cinematic shots of landscapes or moving objects. Coming in various sizes and configurations First Person View drones are also extensively enjoyed recreationally. Styles of flight include competitive racing, long range flight, or a wide ranging category called freestyle. I personally have only ever raced drones and most of what I have to share has been purpose built for racing. You can see a racing drone I’ve built in the photo I’ve shared above. Although you can buy prebuilt drones the ones I fly have been hand built and soldered and have involved 3d printing accessories and mounts. This fall I plan to start a new MultiGP Chapter (an international club organization) and try to host some races locally. I just need to build the hardware and find a suitable place to host it.

Zips Racing Electric

Zips Racing Electric is a student design team at The University of Akron. We are bringing two fully electric formula one style student built cars. They produce 80kW/107 hp using an Emrax motor and produce 230 N-m of torque. They are powered by a custom 378V battery.

They have a big appetite and are ready to munch! Visitors will also have an opportunity to see the Xtool M1 in action, a hybrid laser cutter and vinyl cutter, as we demo how to make these at home or at think[box] on our Epilogue Fusion Pro laser cutters.

Central Ohio Gaslands (COG)

Central Ohio Gaslands (COG) is a gaming club organization that plays Gaslands, a scratch-built tabletop skirmish game that uses customized Hotwheels/ Matchbox cars set in a post-apocolyptic future. COG will be setting up a large scale game board full of handmade custom terrain pieces depicting a Mad Max style racetrack to show and play on. Also on display will be a ton of custom cars made by our members. COG plans on running a few demo games periodically throughout the day, so come see us and check out our favorite game Gaslands!

Adapting Toys for Kids with Disabilities

Learn how to adapt a mainstream, battery-operated toys by placing a switch cable in parallel with the original switch, allowing the toy to be operated by a variety of alternative switches that could be plugged into the cable. If we have kids younger than 14 who want to participate we will have them build a paper circuit. If the kids are 14 and older they can adapt a toy. We encourage parents or guardians to be present for them to participate.

More of crafting group than an academic group. Attendees will be able to try this. We could also sell a few small items done in nalbinding and pjoning--not many, as there won't be time to make many things.

Marimba

My son Jon and I created a 4 octave Marimba from padauk and oak wood planks using a benchtop CNC Router at Romich maker space in Creston, OH. Band and circular saws, a drill and a belt sander were also used. Each key was tuned manually using a digital tuner, sand paper and belt sander. The Marimba will be on display to try and video and instructions for building one will be available.

Dewald Holiday Lights – LED Lights Sequenced to Music

Dewald Holiday Lights is a holiday light show located in Massillon, OH. The show uses over 2,900 individually addressable LED lights, called pixels, sequenced to music to create an engaging holiday light display. Using an FM transmitter, the show audio can be heard by guests in their cars.
