Hong Kong STEAM Project Showcase: Smart Home IoT

Faire: Rome

Maker: Man Kwan QualiEd College

Home: Italy

"STEAM" is the combination of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. This is a Smart Home IoT Project we learned and built in STEAM lessons. We used Blynk as a cloud data storage platform and micro:bit as a controller. The system can be synchronized to form an smart home application demo. STEAM education make us familiar with the development of technologies nowadays.

Robotics in Agriculture I-RIM Challenge

Faire: Rome

Maker: Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma

Home: Italy

The Tomato Harvesting Challenge (THC) is a competition supported by Pal Robotics SL, which will provide the Tiago robot equipped with a 7-DoF robotic arm and parallel gripper. The competition has the ambition to advance the field of agricultural robotics by encouraging the development of innovative solutions for fruit harvesting. Achieving accurate selective harvesting requires overcoming many challenges including the ability to i) detect fruits to be harvested ii) assess their ripeness stage, and iii) plan the robot motion while managing the variability of the agricultural environment.

Circuit Canvas – A simple tool to draw circuits

Faire: Rome

Maker: Ohmify

Home: Italy

Circuit Canvas is a tool to make it easy and fast to draw circuits. It has two modes; Schematic and Layout. Layout is for drawing how to connect the circuit in the real world, similar to Fritzing or Tinkercad. You can also share your circuits with others for them to check out or duplicate to make their own version. Soon multiple people can work on the same project in real-time - similar to google docs. And it will be possible to export automatic build instructions with parts list, and step-by-step illustrations on how to connect the circuit.

Alice – Between The Mirror

Faire: Rome

Maker: Freie Maker e.V.

Home: Italy

We hope that our both will look interesting. And with closer look you will find out that you can play games on it or be creative. So hopefully you will then be hooked up and want it for your home. But you can't buy it, you have to make it for yourself. So check out the building instructions on instructables (well, they should be there at some point, but with documentations we are a bit lazy). Download the plans and programs and go to the next Makerspace and start building.

Lower Limb Exoskeleton for walking assistance

Faire: Rome

Maker: Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma

Home: Italy

The Ekso is a lower limb exoskeleton, commercialized by Ekso Bionics, able to support hip and knee flexion/extension during overground walking. Once the robot is worn, the user has to shift the weight in the lateral and antero-posterior direction thus allowing to free a leg for swing and to trigger each step. The user is actively engaged in achieving and maintaining an upright posture, initiating steps, and balancing their body. The dynamic management of the balance and rhythmic stepping enables walking for assistance and therapy applications.

Closed-loop upper limb prosthesis

Faire: Rome

Maker: Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma

Home: Italy

This innovative project tackles grand challenges in the field of neuroprostheses by developing new i) encoding strategies adopting non-invasive peripheral interfaces for restoring natural and multimodal tactile sensations ii) decoding strategies to recognize motion intention from electromyographic (EMG) signals. The components of the platform are the following: i) an EMG bracelet worn by a volunteer; ii) Different commercial prosthetic hands, one of them provided with force sensors on the fingertips; iii) 3) An electrical stimulator connected to an oscilloscope.

Low-cost prosthetic devices

Faire: Rome

Maker: Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma

Home: Italy

Robotic orthoses and prosthesis represent a valid technological solution to mitigate hand pathologies or amputations; however, these technologies are still largely underused, mainly due for their costs and complexity. The 3D-AID project aims at overcoming these issues by developing low-cost upper limb prosthesis and orthoses customized on the specific needs of patients by means of advanced techniques of additive manufacturing. The project, funded by INAIL, is led by Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma in collaboration with the Centro Protesi INAIL.
