Sistema per l’Identificazione Massiva e a Bordo Automezzo di Sacchi per la Raccolta dei Rifiuti

Smart waste management aims at developing novel ways to optimize waste life-cycle. This objective can be achieved by combining new regulations with the availability of enabling technologies. TARIP is a novel model for tax calculation proposed by Italian government. Differently from the current method (TARI), it separates the amounts due in two different contributions: i) a fixed one, for the services offered by the waste company (i.e. waste collection), and ii) a variable one based on the real amount of taxpayer’s unsorted waste. The second part requires the adoption of a system to automate the computation of waste volume generated by each building. At Maker Faire, we aim at presenting a tracking system able to massively track waste sacks produced by citizens and collected by trucks to calculate in a more precise way the variable amounts due. It is an integrated hardware-software and edge-to-cloud system, developed by the Engineering Department of UniSannio in cooperation with the Agenzia Servizi Igiene Ambientale SpA (ASIA) di Benevento whose edge component is located on truck board and composed of a microcomputer, an RFID reader, and related antennas. The system can perform massive reading of RFID transponders tied to rubbish sacks when they are collected by the waste company operators. Thanks to the adoption of UHF RFID technologies supported by (a) an accurate placement of antennas, (b) specific heuristics, (c) a software architecture strongly tied to the microcomputer hardware, and (d) transactional interactions between edge and cloud, the system is able to read, in a transparent way for the operators, massive amount of sacks IDs that an in-cloud business logic associate to tax payers for defining the variable TARIP contribution.

VRAILEXIA – Think outside the box

BESPECIAL platform, thanks to the use of artificial intelligence algorithms, can be used by students with dyslexia to improve the learning methodologies, guaranteeing an inclusive learning environment. Moreover, a virtual reality scenario has been developed to improve the awareness of teachers and community on dyslexia through empathy. Finally, REASY, an application for smartphone, tablet and PC, allows to digitalize studying materials, making them accessible and editable according to the needs of each student.

EGO – Trasporti Carbon Neutral

EGO is a system composed of a CO2 sensor, position sensors, telemetry mounted on board the vehicle and a cloud platform that collects miles of real data from the vehicles. AI algorithms suggest optimized routes and driving behaviors aimed at reducing the CO2 produced. EGO allows its complete compensation of the remaining CO2, purchasing carbon credits that will be used by Treebu for the planting of paulownia in the territories where the transport company operates. The compensation is certified by EGO to the transport company which can highlight it with its customers and effectively increase CSR.

Sedia a rotelle elettrica per tetraplegici

In the 2022-2023 school year, the students of class IV and V of the Electronic Robotics specialization allowed tetraplegic people, i.e., person with inability to voluntarily move the upper and lower parts of the body, to move independently and using the residual mobility of the head. An Arduino NANO 33 BLE and an inertial sensor present on board allow to intercept the movements of the head and, through the Bluetooth module, the information of the head movements is delivered to a self-built Master board and subsequently, through the DAC, the voltages are created to run the engines. Moreover, a set of sensors on the perimeter of the wheelchair avoids obstacles and a LIDAR sensor helps reconstruct the surrounding environment.

Virtual tours in European capitals

Students created virtual tours of some historical objects or places in European capitals. The project consists of 3d objects and a virtual tour. 3D objects have QR codes to access virtual tours. The online environment CoSpaces was used for the virtual tour, and the SketchUp environment was used for 3D objects. The Istreetview.com environment and the Street View Download 360 program were used to create 3D images. The virtual tour can be viewed with VR glasses, smart devices and on a computer.

Our value proposition is based on a product called LIFE PILLARS: a green infrastructure that can mitigate urban heat islands. Life Pillars operates in the sustainable building sector with the aim of providing a solution that is simple to implement and has a high environmental impact to face the challenge of climate change. Our initiative focuses on various actions, including the reduction of heat islands, the promotion of biodiversity and the construction of structures capable of absorbing CO2, in order to create systems that respond to current environmental problems. We offer customers three price ranges, each with different functionality and features. We provide a personalized assistance service that accompanies the customer at every stage of the process, we offer branding, marketing and communication services to help the company communicate the value of the project on its channels and we provide bureaucratic support. Our clients operate mainly in the B2B market. Our first objective will be to address the large companies which, starting from 2024, will be obliged to present the sustainability report. In Italy, these companies are around 3,000, as reported by the CSEA institutional website. These companies share values ​​such as growth, innovation, sustainability and the concept of "kaizen", i.e. the continuous improvement of company processes and performance. Furthermore, they have objectives both in terms of environmental sustainability and in terms of turnover, business and marketing. They want to have a "green" image and a solution that contributes to having a positive impact on the environment and on their business. Finally, these are companies looking for strategic partnerships in order to improve positioning, growth, acquisition of new customers and consolidation on the market. We have identified several competitors that fill the same need for our product, both directly and indirectly. However, our solution stands out for its significant impact in effectively mitigating heat islands in urban centres, as well as the level of customization offered and the support provided to obtain the necessary certifications and achieve a sustainable balance sheet. Thanks to the integration with the humanoid robot NAO, it will perform the function of technical support thanks to the vocal synthesis for the reproduction of the messages shown on the display.

It is compatible with Bluetooth hearing aids to send alerts directly to the user via an app. The prototype uses certified food-grade PLA.

The project aims to optimise water use through the integration of local and remote data. Soil moisture information is used together with weather forecasts to accurately determine when is the best time to irrigate. The system measures the humidity of the soil through the use of a sensor and decides whether to activate irrigation on the basis of the values ​​relating to the last few hours and the weather forecast data, taken through the invocation of web services. The acquired data is sent to a cloud platform for monitoring humidity levels and sensors.

MEME electric mobility for an eco-sustainable Messina

Using recycled materials, the students developed an electric vehicle prototype powered by innovative batteries and equipped with prototype automation systems. The mechanical structure is obtained from a wrecked car, while the electric motor and its control system are part of a disused forklift. All the on-board electronic components consist of laboratory teaching material. The result is a vehicle with double zero impact: zero costs, zero emissions.

Here four tools designed and created ad hoc (high contrast QR, illuminated walking strip, dixlexia free texts, audio) will allow easier navigation for subjects who are not inclined to use new technologies, as well as for visually impaired subjects or with difficulties related to example for dyslexia.
