Samyra Drift
Maker Faire Bay Area 2026
September 25th-27th
Sam is a four-foot octopus made of LEDs and folded paper, drifting among sea stars and urchin shapes that seem to breathe with her. She is quiet current and slow intelligence. Watch her chromatophores long enough and you start noticing how many tiny paper pieces it took to make her glow like that.
Twisty Maurice
Sam started as a stack of paper and a stubborn idea: could an octopus feel alive if she was built entirely from folds? Therese hand-cut and folded every panel of her body, wiring LEDs behind the paper skin so her chromatophores shift and pulse the way real cephalopod skin does, layer by layer, one small piece at a time. She doesn't live alone. Misty built the sea stars and anemone-like forms she rests among, so the finished piece is really two makers' work interlocking, paper octopus and paper reef, built separately and designed to nestle together. That's the Twisty Maurice way: two artists, two processes, one glowing world when it all comes together.
