Painting with Light
Maker Faire Bay Area 2026
September 25th-27th
This hands-on workshop invites participants to experiment with an alternative analogue photographic technique – the chemigram. By "painting" directly onto light-sensitive paper using brushes, spray bottles, and strings, makers will explore unpredictable reactions of photographic chemicals and create their own one-of-a-kind abstract prints. No prior experience required – just a curiosity to experiment and create!
This workshop is suitable for ages 12+ (younger children are welcome if assisted by an adult).
Each participant takes home their own finished print at the end of the session.
Kristina Žetko & Johan Fredrik Källman
We are two visual artists, working as solo practitioners as well as a duo. Kristina Žetko is a Slovenian visual artist working across cameraless photography, light installation, and craft. Over a decade of studying and practicing photography, she has gained extensive knowledge of the medium’s processes and material possibilities. She is creating experimental prints using light-sensitive materials, handmade negatives, and photographic chemicals to produce abstract, painterly compositions. Her work engages with themes of perception, connectivity, and individual expression, examining how internal experiences can be translated into shared encounters. Žetko holds a BA from the University of Ljubljana and an international MFA in Photography from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. She has exhibited her work internationally and regularly shares her knowledge by leading creative workshops. Johan Fredrik Källman is a Swedish light artist whose practice centers on interactive light installations, sound and optics. His work can be described as a blend of art and science. Driven by a desire to make art inclusive and accessible, he creates playful, hands-on interactive installations where the visitors take center stage. For Källman, light art democratizes art itself by frequently existing beyond traditional galleries. He cherishes how it reaches a diverse audience and generates positive energy back to the community. Källman holds a BFA and international MFA in Photography from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He has exhibited his work internationally at major light festivals across Europe and North America.
