From TechShop to Making PPE at Ford

Virtually Maker Faire 2020

May 22nd-23rd

Exhibit

Jim Newton, Will Brick, and Jeff Sturges are prototypers at Ford Motor Company. Formerly makers of makerspaces (TechShop, OmniCorpDetroit, The Mt Elliott Makerspaces) these makers now help create the future of transportation...or at least that's what they were supposed to be doing until COVID-19 hit the world. To assist those fighting the virus on the front lines, Ford switched from making cars to making face shields, respirator masks, surgical gowns, ventilators and other PPE. Jim, Will and Jeff took lead roles in this effort, and look forward sharing more about this "Apollo Project" and spreading maker culture throughout Ford. Likewise they will explore striking the balance between maker and manager time, and between making collaboratively in physical vs virtual space.
