Relay Races for Makerspaces - A quick introduction to the electromechanical relay and how they can be used to add safety features to saws, laser cutters, drill presses, and other makerspace machinery.

Virtually Maker Faire 2020

May 22nd-23rd

Exhibit

Relays are amazing and they never get the credit they deserve. This workshop will provide a quick introduction to relays, including: what are they, when they should be used, and how to hook them up. The workshop will then share three example projects for how relays can be used to improve the safety and usability of everyday makerspace equipment like saws, laser cutters, drill presses, and soldering irons.

This workshop will be run by educator and engineer Scott Swaaley, who managed K-12 Makerspaces for over a decade and founded a machine safety company in 2016!
