The OpenVentilator.io Spartan Model Mk 1 is a crowdsourced open source ventilator that uses no digital logic, no ambu bag, and no of the shelf valves. It can be built for about $200 in materials. It is to some degree component agnostic, so that many of the major components can be manufactured in different ways, depending on the technologies available to the manufacturer. The Ventilator uses a windshield wiper motor, a DIY bellows, and pneumatic logic in a compound valve assembly that does the work traditionally done by a series of sensors, microcontrollers, and electromechanical valves that we fear already are troublesome to get in most of the world. The Spartan model has adjustments for Tidal Volume; Inspiratory and Expiratory Timing Ratio; Breaths per Minute; PEEP pressure, and Overpressure.
