Making in the Tropics

Maker Faire Bay Area 2019

May 17th-19th

Presentation Education

I'll share my experiences developing local, culturally relevant STEM activities for both in- and after-school use in Timor-Leste, a small tropical nation near Indonesia and Australia, as detailed in my recent book, More Tinkering; Kids in the Tropics Learn by Making Stuff.

After learning most of the useful things I know from growing up on a hog farm in Missouri, I spent time at MIT, the Exploratorium, and schools in China, Mexico, India, Indonesia and Timor-Leste. I also founded the Watsonville Environmental Science Workshop and wrote 4 tinkering books. Now I tinker with my family on a little farm near Elkhorn Slough.
