Doane Academy’s S.T.E.A.M. program is dedicated to developing a community of young tinkerers ready to tackle the 21st century with their creativity, individuality, and unique passions.
Doane Academy's Spartan STEAM Club is dedicated to providing students with opportunities to "purposefully tinker" through engineering and design challenges. For the second year in a row, this includes building their mascot Sparty's Power Racer.
What inspired you to make this project?:
Past visits to Maker Faire NYC showed us the Power Racing Series. Over the years, our STEAM Club has had individual members build vehicles to showcase at our annual STEAM Fair. In 2016, we held an intramural race of our 3 power racers. Last year, we decided to step up to the next level and participate in the Power Racing Series circuit. We learned a lot from this experience - the community around Power Racing is incredibly supportive! - and we want to apply what we've learned to this year's race.
