Come to color and construct your own geometric form from the collection of patterned nets called Cubes and Things. We will have scissors, markers, crayons, tape, and a polyhedra enthusiast to help you make these cool shapes!
What inspired you to make this project?:
For years I've had so much fun making and studying polyhedra, but it was hard to share the joy with my friends -most of whom were not mathematically inclined. Geometric forms are the most accessible area of math, but the plans (called nets) that you can get for free on-line don't turn out that nice.
I set out to make my own nets with patterns, which show off the magic of symmetry on every shape. When I had friends over to try them out, they were so entranced that they couldn't stop making polyhedra. They were intrigued by the shapes, liked coloring and making the form, and were delighted with the new object they had just made. Since then I have had a great time sharing the good times with more people!
