LYBRA - Energy from Traffic

Home: Italy

LYBRA: an energy harvesting device, patented in EU & USA, that reduces the speed of vehicles by converting kinetic energy, otherwise wasted by the brakes, into electrical energy A vehicle passes over LYBRA and its momentum compresses the surface. The vehicle undergoes higher rolling friction on the wheels, which absorbs the kinetic energy. The compression of the LYBRA surface activates a patented generator capable of converting the absorbed energy into electrical energy. The energy produced is stabilized and sent to a normal PV inverter for on-site self-consumption.

The founders of 20energy are ‘stubborn’ dreamers, we started by studying the possibility of recovering kinetic energy from deep water buoys and then we had the intuition to apply the generator to a street solution. S In 2020 we decided to create 20energy, to bring LYBRA to be a mature solution for all kinds of road contexts, and we chose to offer ASPI the opportunity to experiment with it on the stretches under their concession. We are the first installation in the world that recovers kinetic energy from vehicle traffic in a motorway environment, and we are Italian.
