Closed-loop upper limb prosthesis
Home: Italy
This innovative project tackles grand challenges in the field of neuroprostheses by developing new i) encoding strategies adopting non-invasive peripheral interfaces for restoring natural and multimodal tactile sensations ii) decoding strategies to recognize motion intention from electromyographic (EMG) signals. The components of the platform are the following: i) an EMG bracelet worn by a volunteer; ii) Different commercial prosthetic hands, one of them provided with force sensors on the fingertips; iii) 3) An electrical stimulator connected to an oscilloscope.

The team is made up of researchers working in the field of biomedical engineering. Our main objective is to develop solutions aimed at addressing specific user needs. The team has a long-lasting experience in: developing human-robot interaction control strategies, analysing human motor behavior, estimating user intention through the fusion of biosignals, monitoring the biomechanical and psychophysiological state, restoring sensory feedback through invasive and non-invasive interfaces, adapting robot behaviour on the basis of user needs.
