Maker Faire Bay Area 2008
Leather Masks

Location:   Expo Orange

I sculpt masks out of leather - I use water, a box cutter, a cow horn, and my fingers mostly. After the leather dries, I paint and wax them. They are also nice unpainted. I also make horns (like the polymer clay ones only out of leather) in this way.

About the Maker(s)

Sandra Stewart Sandra Stewart [
I'm a librarian and a gamer and a crafter. I make lots of costume-y things for the Live Action Roleplaying that I do with my family and friends. When I was a kid, back in the 70's, leatherwork was all the rage, and my family did a lot of belt, key-fob and purse-making. I make leather masks but I also work with kids and they LOVE to make things out of leather. There is something very appealing about whacking with a wooden mallet and making a big racket while you're crafting. This year, I'm focusing on kids and making some fun, useful leather crafts - key fobs and bracelets.
