Crochet your own waterproof and washable koozies from strips of plastic bags. They aren't just easy to hold -- they also provide excellent insulation!

After a friend taught me a few basic crochet stitches, I was hooked. I experimented with them and crocheting soon became a full on obsession.
I never bothered learning how to read patterns because I prefer to crochet around objects in a free form style. One day I made a dress out of all my yarn scraps by crocheting around my body. I've also made scarves, slippers, rugs, and about a hundred hats (which I give to friends and family members and sometimes sell at First Thursday or various local businesses).
I like the idea of making cool things out of recycled materials. All the yarn I use comes from thrift stores or garage sales. After being frustrated by all the plastic bags accumulating at our house, I got the idea to use them for crochet projects. I have made several koozies and 6 backpacks of varying shapes and sizes. My friends are amused that I am now able to recognize the origin of most plastic bags based on their colors and textures. I can often be found digging through peoples pantries for interesting bags.
