About the Maker(s)
Cycle Circus Austin Cycle Circus Austin’s goal is to inspire the Austin community by creating unique human powered vehicles, bicycle based theatrical performances and educational programs for youth through our Tools for Life bicycle repair and community outreach classes. Cycle Circus Austin has been inspiring awe and wonder in the Austin community and internationally for the past five years. We have worked extensively with international groups such as Tropazancos Cubensi from la Habana, Cuba as well as performing and teaching theatre and mask workshops throughout Mexico and the U.S. We work to celebrate, promote and go far beyond the ordinary with human powered transportation and puppetry while bringing an element of fun and amazement to youth and adults alike. Our work involves the creation of giant mobile cycle puppets, music and theatre, moved entirely via the simple rotation of pedals turned by human feet. Have you ever seen a 17ft. butterfly? Have you ever seen a 17 ft. butterfly carrying a five person band, pedaled by one woman? That is Cycle Circus Austin!
