In his role as Chief Scientist for the Department of Defense and the US Army, Dr. Overholt is in a unique position to discuss the future of robotics in the military, addressing important areas of ongoing research and development. He serves as a liaison between research work at universities and new development in industry.

Dr. Jim Overholt
As Chief Scientist for Robotics for the Department of Defense and the Department of the Army, Dr. Jim Overholt is responsible for defining the strategic vision for robotics science and technology and for conducting and mentoring cutting-edge robotics research.
He serves as the primary interface between industry, academia and other government agencies and as international liaison on all matters of robotics.
He received his Ph.D. from Oakland University (1999) emphasizing the development of neural-fuzzy sensor fusion behavioral architectures for unmanned vehicles. Dr. Overholt has 25 years of experience with the Department of Defense, has authored or co-authored more than 50 white papers and was awarded the Bronze Medal at the 2006 Army Science Conference for his paper, "High Speed Hazard Avoidance for Unmanned Ground Vehicles in Emergency Situations."
