AC Clothing and Bags
Amy Cools was born and raised in California, and has been sewing nearly as long as she can remember. With one home ec class at age 14 as her only formal training, Amy's interest in designing & constructing pieces that fit well, look well, and are perfectly comfortable on all types of human forms, led her to teach herself all aspects of design, pattern drafting, sizing, and construction of garments, and at age 19, to offer for sale her first line of reconstructed vintage designs, and about a year later, her first line of all-original designs. Amy's styles and shapes are most directly informed by her fascination with the human form, and in her years of fine arts classes mostly focusing on figure drawing and painting, she grew to have an instinct for designs that fit and flatter almost any type of figure, and her love of color and whimsy grew out of her own love of art, of vintage and unusual clothing and fabrics, of the distinctly 1980's and 1990's bright, sunny, and bold California style, and of her own strong sense of fun, adventure, and humor.
Today, Amy's all-original line of women's clothing and accessories AC Clothing and Bags is her full-time occupation, as well as authoring and maintaining afterglow's Guide to Independent California Shopping, a free online directory of indie designers, shops, blogs, and events. Amy believes in ethical modes of production and keeps her line sweatshop-free, hiring only local sewers to help in production whose work conditions she can observe for herself, and in keeping her line fresh, exciting, and fun and easy to wear.
